Sip and Learn sessions are held once a month on a Thursday from 10am until 12pm to catch up with other parents and carers in an informal setting. At each session we will have a visiting professional to give guidance on subjects such as advocacy, benefits and trust funds. Keep an eye on our events page for this months date and topic. Below are the details from previous sessions: November 2023 Our partners at Disability Positive gave some assistance on the below topics. • Do you need support to say what matters to you and your child and understand your rights? • Do you want to know more about Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) • Are you worried about your Child turning 18 and knowing how best to advocate for them? For further information or to contact Disability positive directly for support, please click here . December 2023 In December's session we welcomed Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust who gave an opportunity for parents and carers to ask any questions they may have about benefits that you are applying for or currently receiving. For further information from Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust please contact them here. January 2024 Emma from Foresters answered questions about accessing your member’s Child trust fund and saving for them for the future. There is lots of information on the Foresters website, but Emma is happy to discuss the matter with anyone who missed this months session. You can contact her directly here Michael from HSBC answered questions regarding third party access to your member’s bank account, this relates to different ways of giving another person access to your bank account and the right to operate it. More information can be found by clicking here , or by contacting HSBC directly using the help and support area of their website. February 2024 Alison Greatbanks from Hall Smith Whittingham Solicitors spoke about Lasting Power of Attorney, Deputyships and Discretionary and Disabled Trust Funds. Should you wish to request further details on these subjects please contact Tracey at DS Cheshire here, and she will be happy to send all information to you.

If you like sewing, why not bring your needle and thread and join our regular monthly Sewing Club at the DSC Hub. We already have a great team of seamstresses who meet on a Thursday, so why not drop in - they'll have you in stitches! P.S. thimbles will be provided.
