WDSD 2022

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day which has been officially observed every year on 21st March by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

This year’s celebration was just wonderful, and proved a huge success both in terms of raising awareness and those all-important funds!  Here’s a word from our CEO, Lawrence, who reflects on this year’s successes…

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped raise awareness and funds for Down Syndrome Cheshire this World Down Syndrome Day.
We have sold over 30,000 gingerbread biscuits with the support of over 80 schools and many businesses across Cheshire.
Thank you to all the families and businesses who have filled socks with pennies for us and the individuals and teams who have taken part in our ‘Tri-challenge’.
It was great to see so many of our families joining the celebrations at our party, and we’ve loved seeing photographs of all the different ways you celebrated World Down Syndrome Day –  from donning your colourful socks, to enjoying a mocktail.
All of the funds raised will go directly towards supporting the services we deliver to our members as we continue to empower people with Down’s syndrome to live the life they choose.
Best wishes,
Lawrence Caygill
CEO
